A sheath dress was a common sillhouette of the ancient Egyptians.  This wood carved statue of an Offering Bearer in the 12th Dynasty is believed to be a beaded net dress.

“The major proportions of dress change with a slow majesty, in periods often exceeding the duration of human life, and at least sometimes with the regularity of an enormous pendulum.”
